Of course, you will. Of course, I will.
We aren't perfect, and we will never be. The Bible says this:
“As it is written: “There is no one
righteous, not even one;
All have turned away, they have
together become worthless; there is no one who does good, not even one.””
Romans 3:10, 12 NIV
“If we claim to be without sin, we
deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.”
1 John 1:8 NIV
In two different places in the Bible,
we see that sin is a part of our life and that no one is exempt from sinning.
So if that is true, why is "you will always sin" such an impactful
voice on our lives?
Because the Devil says it in our ear
right after we have done something wrong. The Devil will push you toward
something, and when you finally cave in, the Devil then says things like:
“You're no good.”
“Why did you even try to stop that
addiction? You know you can't.”
“You're worthless.”
“You are what they tell you.”
“God doesn't care.”
“You just keep making the same mistakes.”
“Look what you did. You looked at porn
again.”
“Well, look at that, you're drunk again.”
“You're never going to be anything but
an alcoholic.”
“Keep doing it. People don't care
anyway.”
The Devil messes with our thinking and
tries to make our mistakes define us. We begin to buy into all of what is being
said and it takes us out. But, here is what Paul says in Romans about this
topic:
“For sin shall no longer be your
master, because you are not under the law, but under grace.”
Romans 6:14 NIV
You see, while we are sinners by nature
and nothing will ever change that, God tells us here through Paul that sin no
longer controls us because we are under the grace of God... Jesus.
Jesus came to save the people from
their sin (Matthew 1:21) and He will forgive our sins (1 John 1:9). But that
doesn't mean that Jesus wants us doing whatever we please just because He is
going to forgive us anyway. But Jesus doesn't expect perfection either.
Jesus wants us to simply live for Him
the best we can. Jesus says this in Matthew:
“Jesus replied: 'Love the Lord your God
with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the
first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor
as yourself.’”
Matthew 22:37-39 NIV
So when you hear "you will always
sin", don't let it get to you because God says that He loves us in spite
of what we do, and He is a good, good Father.
