The Dawn - part 8 - God's Man

In this series of posts, we have seen God speak the universe into existence. We have seen how He formed and made us unique. We are His masterpieces! Then, we saw how God set a rhythm for rest by taking a rest after He created everything. Next, we took a look at the paradise that Adam and Eve were given to take care of and live in. They walked with God! But then we saw that all change with one choice that Adam and Eve made. They chose to take and eat from the tree that God had told them not to eat from. This caused evil to be brought to light. They were kicked out of the Garden for the choice that they had made. We looked at the punishments that were handed out. Lastly, we looked at Cain and Able and how the bad choices continued as we witnessed the first murder.

But in all of this God still loved and protected Adam, Eve and Cain. But their actions set off a change that sent the world into a downward spiral and we see God say these words in Genesis 6:

“The Lord saw how great the wickedness of the human race had become on the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of the human heart was only evil all the time. The Lord regretted that he had made human beings on the earth, and his heart was deeply troubled. So the Lord said, 'I will wipe from the face of the earth the human race I have created—and with them the animals, the birds and the creatures that move along the ground—for I regret that I have made them.'" - Genesis 6:5-7 NIV

Since the creation of the world we have went from total utopia to dystopia and God looking down with sorrow on the people that He had created. But wasn't all bad -

"But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord. This is the account of Noah and his family. Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked faithfully with God.” - Genesis 6:8-9 NIV

So God told Noah to build a boat and make it big. God told Noah to make the boat that was 450 feet long, 75 feet high, and 45 feet wide. This was no row boat! He told him to put roof of the boat with a small opening all the way around and for it to have upper, middle and lower decks. He also said to put stalls in the boat. (Genesis 6:14-16, NLT)

God then told Noah why he was doing this -

“Look! I am about to cover the earth with a flood that will destroy every living thing that breathes. Everything on earth will die.” - Genesis 6:17, NLT

God then tells him to bring pairs of every kind of animal onto the boat and his family. (Genesis 6:18-21, NLT)

So what do I see in this story.

1. God will tell you what He wants
We have saw this in Adam and Eve and Cain and Able's stories. God told Adam and Eve not to eat from the tree. They could do anything else - but eat from that tree. God told Cain to get his anger in check or something bad would happen - and it did. He killed his brother. God told Noah exactly what to do and the Bible says -

“So Noah did everything exactly as God had commanded him.” - Genesis 6:22 NLT

Noah was kept safe from the flood because he did what God told him to do. Imagine if we could get that down - just do what God says. Imagine the trouble we would save ourselves. God tells us all that we need to know in the Bible. God has given us clear instructions on a lot of stuff in the pages of His Word.

2. God keeps His promises
God told Noah to build the boat to be kept safe and God kept him safe. After the flood God gave Noah (and everyone else for that matter) another promise. He made it in the form of a rainbow and He said in Genesis 9 -

“Then God said, 'I am giving you a sign of my covenant with you and with all living creatures, for all generations to come. I have placed my rainbow in the clouds. It is the sign of my covenant with you and with all the earth. When I send clouds over the earth, the rainbow will appear in the clouds, and I will remember my covenant with you and with all living creatures. Never again will the floodwaters destroy all life. When I see the rainbow in the clouds, I will remember the eternal covenant between God and every living creature on earth.'" - Genesis 9:12-16 NLT

God has made many promises throughout the Bible. But God's credibility started here in Genesis 9. God said that the rainbow is a promise to us that He will never wipe out the earth again with a flood, and to my knowledge, there hasn't been a global flood since Noah.

What an awesome God we have!! He tells us and show us how to do life and He keeps His promises! We can remember that every time we see a rainbow.

(You can read Noah's story in the book of Genesis chapters 6-9)

God, You Failed

"God, you failed me!” Many of us have probably heard these words, thought these words, or even said these words. We get tired of waiting for God to do something. We feel like God’s inbox is full and our prayers are just bouncing off the ceiling and coming right back at us. So, in some cases and with some people, they give up and say “God, you failed me!” I feel these words in certain areas of the Bible: Peter, Paul, Moses, Joseph, the disciples and the people that followed and believed in Jesus just to watch Him get crucified. The one that is probably the most obvious is David as he writes in the Psalms about feeling abandoned by God. For this post, I was directed to a familiar story in the Gospel of John. In this story, we are going to see this happen as two women he frustrated with Jesus. The women’s names were Mary and Martha and they had a brother named Lazarus. Lazarus has talked ill and the women had sent for Jesus urging him to come quickly saying “the one yo

Eyes Up - part 5 - Patience

“...where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord.... Psalm 121:1-2 NIV Ahhhh..... patience. That’s it. That’s all I have for this post. Anyone suffer from a lack of patience? I know I do and that is why I find it hard to give advice on the topic. This is why I’m not giving advice. I’m going to let God do that. I want to draw you attention to Exodus 14 for this week’s post. Moses has already been summoned by God to go back to Egypt and free the Israelites from Pharaoh. After much talking, plagues and stubbornness - Pharaoh lets the Israelites go. Moses leads them out of Egypt and they get as far as the Red Sea. Meanwhile, Pharaoh has changed his mind and is in hot pursuit of them. The people begin to grumble at Moses because of their situation. They said things like: “They said to Moses, ‘Was it because there were no graves in Egypt that you brought us to the desert to die? What have you done to us by bringing us out of Egypt? Didn’t we say to you in Egy

Eyes Up - part 4 - Peace

“...where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord.... Psalm 121:1-2 NIV There are just some things that we need help with and that is just a fact. So in this series of posts we are looking at a few of those kind of things and trying change our focus to the One that can give us true help with these things. We have been focusing in on Psalm 121:1-2 for this “Eyes Up” refocus. The psalmist realized that there is really only one true source of help and refocused attention to that source. The topic of today’s post is one that is really only found in Jesus. Peace. What is that anymore? Look around you, turn on the news or scroll Facebook/Twitter and you will see there is really no such thing as peace anymore. People are constantly at each other because of their opinions and refusing to accept one another’s views and move on with life. There is chaos in the line at Walmart because someone cut in line and instead of just letting them have the spot - a verbal fight brea

Kryptonite

“[looking away from all that will distract us and] focusing our eyes on Jesus , who is the Author and Perfecter of faith....” -  Hebrews 12:2 a AMP Have you ever lost focus? Maybe it was a task you were working on and one of your kids (or spouse) come into the room or called out to you from another place in the house causing you to turn your attention from what you were doing to them or their calling out. Then you look back at your task and have to remember where you were or what exactly you have done. Did I add salt to this? Did I put in the sugar for the cookies? How many cups of flour did I put in the mixing bowl already? You get the idea. Have you been there? There are times in life when we can be the same way. We are going along in life - our day to day activities - our gaze is laser focused on Jesus. Then all of a sudden something happens in our life that seemingly comes out of nowhere and takes our focus off of Jesus. We begin then to fall into the storm of what
