Whisper - part 1 - Always Talking

Decisions.

Anyone ever have to make a decision?

They are not always easy to make. But some decisions are made easily. The cereal you want to buy. The ice cream you want to buy. The sub you get from Jimmy John's. The decisions that can be made easier than others usually involve our favorite things - no questions asked.

For me, it's Golden Oreos, Cinnamon Life, Meatlovers Pizza and cookie dough ice cream (preferably Ben & Jerry's Tonight's Dough). These would be my choices with little or no thought.

But what about the decisions that are hard. For example - should I date this person? Should I let this person into my life? Does this relationship help my walk with God? Should I listen to what God says in the situation or what people say? Should I stay in this relationship? Should I stay with my husband or wife? Should I get that car or house? Should I keep this job that I don't like? What do we do with those?

We can ask a friend what we should do in different situations - at least I do. They know us in a different way than family would. I have people in my life that help me see the different areas of a decision and help me make a better choice. We can ask family. They know us well. But they can also provide some good points of view into a situation.

We can ask God. I put this one last - because if we could be honest with each other we typically come to God last. Why? God makes us wait. When we are face to face with someone they can give us an immediate answer to our question or problem.

But God makes us wait - or does He?

Could it be that God is always talking to us - but we are always being too loud?

Have you ever been in a one-sided conversation? All the other person did is talk talk talk talk talk and you couldn't get a word in. All through the conversation they are asking you some questions, but they won’t wait for you to answer or as soon as you start to answer they have a reply.

Maybe the reason we can't hear God is because we won't let Him get a word in.

“For God speaks again and again, though people do not recognize it.” - Job 33:14 NLT

Over the next few posts we are going to look at how God speaks and how we can get in and stay in earshot of God's voice. How can you do that today or this week?

Kryptonite

“[looking away from all that will distract us and] focusing our eyes on Jesus , who is the Author and Perfecter of faith....” -  Hebrews 12:2 a AMP Have you ever lost focus? Maybe it was a task you were working on and one of your kids (or spouse) come into the room or called out to you from another place in the house causing you to turn your attention from what you were doing to them or their calling out. Then you look back at your task and have to remember where you were or what exactly you have done. Did I add salt to this? Did I put in the sugar for the cookies? How many cups of flour did I put in the mixing bowl already? You get the idea. Have you been there? There are times in life when we can be the same way. We are going along in life - our day to day activities - our gaze is laser focused on Jesus. Then all of a sudden something happens in our life that seemingly comes out of nowhere and takes our focus off of Jesus. We begin then to fall into the storm of ...

God, You Failed

"God, you failed me!” Many of us have probably heard these words, thought these words, or even said these words. We get tired of waiting for God to do something. We feel like God’s inbox is full and our prayers are just bouncing off the ceiling and coming right back at us. So, in some cases and with some people, they give up and say “God, you failed me!” I feel these words in certain areas of the Bible: Peter, Paul, Moses, Joseph, the disciples and the people that followed and believed in Jesus just to watch Him get crucified. The one that is probably the most obvious is David as he writes in the Psalms about feeling abandoned by God. For this post, I was directed to a familiar story in the Gospel of John. In this story, we are going to see this happen as two women he frustrated with Jesus. The women’s names were Mary and Martha and they had a brother named Lazarus. Lazarus has talked ill and the women had sent for Jesus urging him to come quickly saying “the one yo...

I

Last Thursday night, I was sitting in service and Pastor Beeson started the service with a prayer. He started with the words "I need you God" and this is what came to me over the course of that opening moment of prayer. Take a minute to read these words, reflect on these words or pray these words. ---------------- I need you God I need grace I need your love I need your patience I need your forgiveness I need you God I need your joy I need your self-control I need your kindness I need your knowledge I need you God I need your strength I need your hope I need your presence I need your power I need you God I need your peace I need your goodness I need your gentleness I need your mercy I need you God I need what I am not worthy of ___________________ Questions or comments... please email secondstagequestions@gmail.com PLEASE VISIT THE  SECOND STAGE MINISTRIES FACEBOOK PAGE  - CLICK LIKE!! Artist

I have always wanted to be an artist. I have always wanted to be able to whip out a sketch pad and draw what is before me. I have always wanted to be able to draw the intricate design of the landscape in the distance, the details of a person's face or the majestic colors in the sky at sunset. I have always wanted to draw on a white board as I teach the Word of God to 10 year olds. But I can’t even draw stick figures all that well. I am just not an artist in that way. But I am an artist. I am able to creatively teach 4th and 5th graders stories in the Bible so that they can understand how much he loves them and how all the stories in Bible are all one big story. We are all created differently with different abilities. Paul wrote about this in 1 Corinthians 12. He describes a body and how each part of the body does it’s own thing and that each part serves a purpose. You don’t use your hands to try and do what your feet can do and your eyes are not your hands. Every par...

Leaving God

by Heather Gent I looked around the room at all the furniture I was leaving behind. Pictures. Books. My daughter's crib. My own bed.  Many of my son's belongings.  Everything I owned was about to fade into nothing more than a distant memory.  Let it go I heard my Father whisper.  I struggled, not with starting over again, but with leaving behind my books, Bibles, and Christian wall art, the plaques that had Scripture written out on them.  Hanging crosses that I hung carefully throughout every home I've ever lived.  My reminders of God's presence. A white piece of wood that had the word hope written across it in gold.  A table cross that bore one of my favorite verses, Proverbs 3:5-6.  I reasoned a hundred times that the Lord wanted me to make room for these things, but each time I tried I was quickly rebuked by the Holy Spirit within me.   I didn't understand because they were my reminders of Him after all.  They were, to me, sy...
