Lifted Up - part 2 - The Shepherds

This is something that can be overlooked in a quick glance at the Christmas story. Let's take a look:

“And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, 'Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.' 'When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, 'Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.'" - Luke 2:8-12+15 NIV

Shepherds were the lowest of the low. People usually didn't associate with them. Nobody introduced them as friends and surely no one would have wanted them where a baby had just been born. They were literally there to watch the flocks and that is it. They would have also not been the prettiest looking bunch either. They were probably smelly. They probably dressed all weird.

They would have probably been fired from their job because they left the flock there alone. It was their job to watch and protect the flocks they were watching. So leaving would have probably led to termination.

But God personally invited them. He picked them to come and see His Son for a reason. God was showing us that..

JESUS IS FOR EVERYONE!

The angels could have appeared anywhere and to anyone. But God chose to send them to THOSE shepherds in THAT field to tell us that...

JESUS IS FOR EVERYONE!

God invites you today. Maybe you feel like the shepherds. Maybe you feel like you don't belong in the presence of God - but God would say different. He invites you today to come into His presence. He picks you. Do you pick Him? Are you going to answer His invite? If so pray the prayer below:

DEAR GOD,

I’M PRAYING BECAUSE I KNOW I NEED A SAVIOR. I BELIEVE THAT JESUS IS THE SON OF GOD, HE DIED FOR MY SINS, AND ROSE AGAIN ON THE THIRD DAY. I’M ASKING YOU TO FORGIVE MY SINS, AND I BELIEVE THROUGH JESUS, I AM FORGIVEN. AMEN.

God, You Failed

"God, you failed me!” Many of us have probably heard these words, thought these words, or even said these words. We get tired of waiting for God to do something. We feel like God’s inbox is full and our prayers are just bouncing off the ceiling and coming right back at us.
