Why?

Why do I care so much?
Why do I worry about it so much?
Why do I think that it’s my fault so much?
Why does this keep coming around so much?
Why can’t I shake this demons?
Why won’t they just go away?
Why does the past keep creeping in?
Why am I so in control but out of control?

The devil tries to still your joy. The words of Jesus say:

“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” - John 10:10 NIV

The devil’s goal is clear in these words of Jesus - he is just out to steal away anything Jesus tries to do. Jesus can be telling you in one ear that “everything is going to be ok” “it’s really not your fault” “keep your head up”. Then in the other ear, the devil is telling you everything is the opposite “everything is failing and falling apart” “this is all your fault” “there is no reason to have your head up”.

Steal steal steal steal steal. This is all he does. He doesn’t want you to be happier - he wants you to be miserable. He wants you against God. So he shout things loud at you and gains your focus. He wants you mad at God. Why? Because then it’s one less fighter for God. One less person for him to worry about. He wants you out of the game.

But all the while Jesus is still there. He’s still talking. He’s still walking along beside you. He wants you to see the light at the end of the tunnel. He’s there to run through those words of the devil with you.

Maybe you are in a place where you also are asking God the question - “Why?” You just don’t understand. You just don’t know. It’s not the way you pictured life going. But here you are.

But don’t give up hope. Trust that God has a plan! Don’t loose your joy!

“fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.” - Hebrews 12:2-3 NIV

Eyes Up - part 5 - Patience

“...where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord.... Psalm 121:1-2 NIV Ahhhh..... patience. That’s it. That’s all I have for this post. Anyone suffer from a lack of patience? I know I do and that is why I find it hard to give advice on the topic. This is why I’m not giving advice. I’m going to let God do that. I want to draw you attention to Exodus 14 for this week’s post. Moses has already been summoned by God to go back to Egypt and free the Israelites from Pharaoh. After much talking, plagues and stubbornness - Pharaoh lets the Israelites go. Moses leads them out of Egypt and they get as far as the Red Sea. Meanwhile, Pharaoh has changed his mind and is in hot pursuit of them. The people begin to grumble at Moses because of their situation. Eyes Up - part 4 - Peace

So in this series of posts we are looking at a few of those kind of things and trying change our focus to the One that can give us true help with these things. We have been focusing in on Psalm 121:1-2 for this “Eyes Up” refocus. The psalmist realized that there is really only one true source of help and refocused attention to that source. The topic of today’s post is one that is really only found in Jesus. Peace. What is that anymore? “[looking away from all that will distract us and] focusing our eyes on Jesus , who is the Author and Perfecter of faith....” -  Hebrews 12:2 a AMP Have you ever lost focus? Maybe it was a task you were working on and one of your kids (or spouse) come into the room or called out to you from another place in the house causing you to turn your attention from what you were doing to them or their calling out. Then you look back at your task and have to remember where you were or what exactly you have done. Did I add salt to this? Did I put in the sugar for the cookies? How many cups of flour did I put in the mixing bowl already? You get the idea. Have you been there? There are times in life when we can be the same way. We are going along in life - our day to day activities - our gaze is laser focused on Jesus.
