When
I think of this word “able”, I am reminded of a story in the book of Mark. In
this story we see the disciples in a boat crossing the Sea of Galilee, and
Jesus is sound asleep.
35
That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, “Let
us go over to the other side.”
36
Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat. There
were also other boats with him.
37
A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was
nearly swamped.
38
Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said
to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?”
39
He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet!
Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.
40
He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do
you still have no faith?”
-Mark
4:35-40, NIV
Life
is represented is this story.
One
moment everything is going along fine, and then all of a sudden out of nowhere
something happens and causes a big storm in life. In those moments, we
sometimes ask God “Don’t you care?!”
But
God is close.
God
is right there beside us in the storm guiding us through.
A
few months ago I stumbled across this song by NewSpring Worship1
called “Able”. These lyrics are really good. Please take a moment to read them
through, and then listen to the video of the acoustic version of the song2.
In
the middle of my trial
I
will lift my voice to sing
In
this moment I surrender
And
I believe You can do anything
You
are able, able
God
forever faithful
King
of heaven
There’s
nothing that You can’t do
I
believe You are able
Even
when I’m broken-hearted
I
will lift my voice to sing
You
will finish what You started
And
I believe You can do anything
You
are able, able
God
forever faithful
King
of heaven
There’s
nothing that You can’t do
I
believe You are able
You
can move the highest mountain
You
can calm the raging sea
You
can see beyond my failures
You
can do anything for me
You
can move the highest mountain
You
can calm the raging sea
You
can see beyond my failures
You
can do anything
You
can move the highest mountain
You
can calm the raging sea
You
can see beyond my failures
You
can do anything
You
can do anything
You
can do anything
You
can do anything
You
are able, able
God
forever faithful
King
of heaven
There’s
nothing that You can’t do
I
believe…
You
are able, able
God
forever faithful
King
of heaven
There’s
nothing that You can’t do
I
believe You are able
20
Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us,
to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. -Ephesians 3:20 (NLT)3
